RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- WVU Tech volleyball faced Ohio Christian University, host school University of Rio Grande, Shawnee State University and Bluefield University, dropping four matches during the Emileigh Cooper Memorial Classic in Ohio Friday and Saturday.
The Golden Bears fell with scores of 1-3 (16-25, 30-28, 20-25, 15-25) vs. Ohio Christian, 0-3 (16-25, 18-25, 17-25) vs. Rio Grande, 1-3 (25-20, 18-25, 17-25, 20-25) vs. Shawnee State and 0-3 (21-25, 22-25, 21-25) vs. Bluefield. Tech now holds a record of 1-7 this season.Â
Senior
Julia McClanahan (Charleston, W.Va.) dished 96 assists to lead the Golden Bears over four matches. McClanahan also recorded 27 digs and five kills.
Freshman Marianna Oyola Rivera put out 32 assists and had 26 digs and ten kills.
The libero, junior
Brooke Presley (Ghent, W.Va.), finished with 63 digs, five service aces and two assists.
Senior
Ana Muniz Rocandio (Oviedo, Asturias, Spain) put away a team-high 50 kills to go with 45 digs.
Junior
Madison Boswell (Ronceverte, W.Va.) had 33 kills while sophomore
Emily Stack (Beckley, W.Va.) had 19 and fellow classmate
Nevaeh Wooding (White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.) posted 16 kills.
Defense at the net was led by Stack who had two block solos and eight block assists. Wooding recorded six block assists while Muniz Rocandio and Oyola Rivera had three block assists each.
The Gold and Blue will next play in Mount Hope, W.Va. to face Appalachian Bible College and Alice Lloyd College Tuesday, September 5.
