BECKLEY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech women's soccer and Midway University battled it out to kick off the River States Conference (RSC) schedule Thursday at Paul Cline Stadium. The Golden Bears fell 1-0 to the Eagles and now hold a record of 1-6-1, 0-1 (RSC) while Midway moves to 3-0, 1-0 (RSC).
Tech and Midway played even throughout the contest including both teams recording five shots on goal and eight corner kicks each. The Golden Bears did hold the edge on shots, 15-8.
Sophomore
Sandra Garcia Quilez (Zaragoza, Spain) produced three saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of play. Midway's keeper, Yasmeen Shalash, was forced to stop three Golden Bear attempts on goal and recorded the W protecting the net.
The Eagles' goal was posted in the final minute of the game from Anna Kneisley who was assisted by Haylee Applegate.
Freshman
Carson Barr (New Manchester, W.Va.) had two shots on goal while fellow classmates
Maddie Lott (Fairmont, W.Va),
Sofia Filgueira (Spain) and
Korinne Potter (Woodbridge, Va.) had one each.Â
WVU Tech will continue conference play when they host RSC newcomer Indiana University Purdue University Colombus Saturday, September 23 at 4:30 p.m.
