DANVILLE, Ky. -- WVU Tech women's and men's swimming traveled to Centre College to face the host and Union College Saturday in Danville. The men dropped both match-ups, vs. Centre 210-49 and vs. Union 132-79 while the women fell vs. Centre 235-8 and vs. Union 125-15.
The team of
Simon Merhout (Újezd u Brna, Czech Republic | Biology),
Bryson George (St. Vincent and the Grenadines | Civil Engineering),
Derek Hahn (Warren, Pa. | Mechanical Engineering) and
Guillermo Usechi (Barcelona, Spain | Civil Engineering) started things off for the Gold and Blue with a third place showing in the 200 Medley Relay after a group effort time of 1:42.60.
Usechi posted second place finishes in the 50 Free with a 21.96 and the 100 Free at 49.75 for the Golden Bears.
Corbin Peters (Beckley, W.Va. | History and Government) produced a third place finish after touching at 12:15.08 in the 1000 Free and Merhout also finished third in the 200 IM (2:09.33).
Hahn was third in the 100 Fly (56.92) and fifth in the 200 Fly (2:14.56) while George finished fourth in the 100 Breast (1:04.18).
Pablo Rubio Asin (Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain | Civil Engineering) touched at 2:11.21 in the 200 Back to take fourth place overall.
The team of Merhout,
Noah Maniace (Osceola, Fla. | Electrical Engineering), George and Usechi ended third (1:34.12) in the 200 Free while the squad of Rubio Asin, Refiloe Raf Mashao (Johannesburg, South Africa | Accounting), Hahn and Peters were fifth (1:41.58) in the same event to finish out the day.
The women saw action from
Daniela Bohr (Jacksonville, Fla. | Forensic Investigation) who was sixth in both the 100 Breast (1:22.31) and the 200 Breast (2:54.21) and
Natalia Nicole Davies (Silver Spring, Md. | Biology) who was tenth in the 100 Free (1:21.77) and 11th in the 50 Free (39.18).
The Golden Bears will next travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to face Shawnee State University and Midway University Saturday, January 20.
