Beckley, W.Va. - A new program record highlighted a successful night for (RV) WVU Tech men's basketball who defeated Midway University in a River States Conference (RSC) match-up 88-69 Tuesday evening. The Golden Bears will next face Indiana University Southeast this Saturday in the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center with a record of 14-4, 7-2 and winning their last 10 of 11 games.
Sophomore
Brant Smithers (Williamstown, Ky.) drained 11 three's for a new Golden Bear record and towards a career-high 35 points. Smithers averages 13.6 points per game and has made 70 from beyond the arc this year.
A double-double was credited to sophomore
Thomas Hailey (Monroe, N.C.) who finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Senior
Ashton Parker (Rock Hill, S.C.) and freshman
Liam Craven (Brantford, Ontario, Canada) pulled down 11 boards each and added nine and eight points respectively. Parker now has 31 blocks this season after recording three tonight.
Freshmen
Braden Chapman and
Cole Chapman who hail from Beaver, W.Va. both dished nine assists to their teammates and fellow classmate
Cameron Danser of Morgantown, W.Va. finished with seven points and six rebounds.
The Golden Bears are currently leading the nation (NAIA) in three-point percentage at 42.2 percent and the team is shooting 51.8 percent from the floor which ranks them seventh nationally.
