FOLSOM, Calif. -- WVU Tech's
Jessica York of cross country and track & field has qualified to compete in the second annual NAIA Marathon Classic December 8 in California. The classic will be held in conjunction with the California International Marathon (CIM).
The NAIA Marathon Classic was held as a stand-alone event for the first time last year, as it was formerly a part of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships but was removed as an event after 2022. It is currently classified as an emerging sport in the NAIA and is not an official championship.
Qualifications for this event took place from over the course of 12 weeks. Student-athletes who wanted to be considered to run in the marathon had to average 50 miles per week during that 12 week training period. Secondly, during those 12 weeks of training, the student-athlete had to complete a minimum of two, two-hour runs. A total of 100 spots this year were allotted to the NAIA National Championship by CIM, 52 men and 48 women. York is currently ranked 28th out of the 48 women runners.
