CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- WVU Tech baseball returned to GoMart Ballpark Sunday for a doubleheader versus Lourdes University where the Golden Bears bumped their winning streak to seven after scores of 3-1 and 8-2. Tech now boasts a record of 10-5 while the Gray Wolves move to 0-2.
Junior
Noah Lukas (Ocala, Flda.) led at the plate over two games, finishing 5-for-8 towards two RBI, a double and a run scored.
Senior
Logan Stump (Beckley, W.Va.) and junior
William Gray (Rockwell, N.C.) drove in three runs each off of a hit and two hits respectively. Both Golden Bears knocked a double in game two.
Sophomore
Xavier Martin's (Yorktown, Va.) two RBI were produced in game two to go with a triple.
JuniorsÂ
Broedy Boyce (Ripley, W.Va.) and
Hunter Fansler (Beckley, W.Va.) and senior
Francesco Calderon (Guayaquil, Ecuador) each crossed the plate twice in the series. Boyce had four hits including two doubles and a triple, Calderon recorded three hits and Fansler had a single and double.
Senior
Matthew Gainer (Elkins, W.Va.) drew the start on the mound in game one, throwing for 7.0 innings and striking out nine while producing an ERA of 1.29 and the W.
Game two's victory on the bump was credited to junior
Robert Kelley (Vienna, Va.) who pitched for 6.0 innings, retiring ten opponents via strikes and allowing two earned runs.
The Golden Bears will begin River States Conference play this weekend when they travel to Indiana University Purdue University Columbus for a three-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for Friday, March 1 at 3 p.m. in Indianapolis, Indiana.
