BECKLEY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech softball opened its home schedule with a doubleheader against University of Pikeville at Fitzpatrick Park Wednesday. The Golden Bears fell in game one 10-12 before earning a walk-off victory in game two 12-11.
The Gold and Blue tallied a total of 22 hits over 14.0 innings and saw seven Golden Bears produce a multi-hit day including three each from senior
Kyleigh Jackson (Hico, W.Va.) and junior
Macy Wilkens (Greenville, Ind.). Jackson marked a RBI and four runs scored as the leadoff hitter while Wilkens had a home run, double, three RBI and a run scored.
Senior
Scarlet Janney (Pearisburg, Va.) knocked a double and a home run towards four RBI in game two while scoring the winning run off a sac fly from freshman
Abby Gates (West Columbia, S.C.).
Sophomore
Olivia Barnett (Shady Spring, W.Va.) rocked a grand slam for four RBI and a single in game one.
Two hits were also credited to senior
Maggie Richards (Parkersburg, W.Va.), freshman
Kaylie Lawrence (Greenup, Ky.) and senior
Makenzie Holley (Sophia, W.Va.) during the doubleheader. Richards had three runs scored and a RBI, Lawrence was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a RBI and Holley had a double, three stolen bases and two runs scored.
Senior
McKayla Bartley (Pahrump, Nev.) hit a three-run homerun and scored two runs while freshman
Trista Marcum (Williamson, W.Va.) finished with a hit towards a RBI and two runs scored.
The win in the circle went to Marcum who pitched 2.2 innings to finish game two. Marcum struck out a batter and gave up two earned runs. Lawrence drew the start, throwing for 4.1 innings towards two strike outs.
In game one, sophomore
Meghan Gill (Victor, W.Va.) retired one via strikes after 3.1 innings while freshman
Alli Raquet (Indianapolis, Ind.) threw for 3.2 innings, striking out one in the loss.
WVU Tech (6-9, 2-2 RSC) will return to River States Conference (RSC) action Saturday when they travel to Ohio Christian University (2-8, 0-2 RSC) Saturday for a doubleheader in Circleville, Ohio.
