BECKLEY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech baseball hosted River States Conference (RSC) opponent Indiana University Kokomo at Linda K. Epling Stadium Saturday and Sunday, dropping the three-game series with scores of 7-5, 7-2 and 6-5. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 14-11, 4-5 (RSC) while the Cougars move to 18-11, 7-2 (RSC).
Junior
Noah Lukas (Ocala, Fla.)Â had a standout series at the plate including hitting for the cycle in game one and recording four RBI and five hits over three games. Fellow junior
Logan Spurlock (Charleston, W.Va.) finished 5-for-8 towards a batting average of .625, tallying a double, a RBI and a run scored.
Broedy Boyce, a junior from Ripley, W.Va., also had five hits in the series, adding two runs scored.
Senior
Logan Stump (Beckley, W.Va.) was 4-for-7 with three RBI, a double and a run scored. Junior
Jordan Thurmond (Rock Hill, S.C.) and sophomore
Chase Herndon (Hedgesville, W.Va.) recorded three hits, a double and a RBI each.
On the mound during game one senior
Matthew Gainer (Elkins, W.Va.) drew the start, pitching 7.0 innings towards three strike outs and the loss. Junior
Robert Kelley (Vienna, W.Va.) was dealt the loss in game two, throwing towards ten strike outs in 6.1 innings. In the finale senior
Tyler Wilkinson (Bridgeport, W.Va.) started on the bump, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out four opponents. Freshman
Wyatt Sisk (Appomattox, Va.) put in work for 1.1 innings and a strike out for the loss.
The Gold and Blue will take a break from conference play when they travel to Kentucky Christian University for a 2 p.m. start on Tuesday.
