CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- WVU Tech baseball traveled to Ohio Chrisitan University for a three-game River States Conference (RSC) series, taking it with scores of 14-1, 16-0 and 6-3. The Golden Bears now boast a record of 24-20, 13-11 (RSC) while the Trailblazers move to 11-29, 8-16 (RSC).
The bullpen produced outstanding numbers, striking out a total of 28 in 21.0 innings towards an ERA of just 0.86 and scattering 13 hits. Junior
Robert Kelley (Vienna, Va.) retired 12 via strikes in 7.0 innings for the shutout 16-0 victory. Kelley is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation (NAIA) with 104 strikeouts over 12 appearances and 74.0 innings. The junior, who is 8-3 this season with a 3.65 ERA, is also No. 3 nationally with two shutout victories.
Senior
Matthew Gainer (Elkins, W.Va.) recorded seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings, giving up just one run. Senior
Tyler Wilkinson (Bridgeport, W.Va.) and freshman
Pedro Henrique Luciano (Atlanta, Ga.) recorded 4 Ks each in 4.0 and 2.0 innings respectively while sophomore
Braedan Pakkala (Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) struck out one in 1.0 innings.
Tech racked up the RBI's with a total of 35 including six from junior
Hunter Fansler (Beckley, W.Va) who had two homers, four hits and five runs scored. Sophomore
Chase Herndon (Hedgesville, W.Va.) also hit a long ball and tallied five RBI and five runs scored off of three hits.
Seniors
Logan Stump (Beckley, W.Va.) and
Francesco Calderon (Guayquil, Ecuador) and junior
Broedy Boyce (Ripley, W.Va.) drove in four runs each. Boyce totaled five hits including a double while Stump had three and Calderon two hits. Junior
William Gray (Rockwell, N.C.) drove in three runs while fellow classmates
Garrett Warden (Fayetteville, Ind.),
Noah Lukas (Ocala, Flda.) and
Jordan Thurmond (Rock Hill, S.C.) had two RBI each.
The Golden Bears are scheduled to host Bluefield University at Linda K. Epling Stadium Tuesday, April 23 next.
