WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — WVU Tech men's basketball rallied in the second half and tied the game in the final minutes, but Campbellsville made key plays late as the Golden Bears fell 81–76 Friday afternoon at the Cumberlands Classic.
The Golden Bears (1–3) trailed 44–34 at halftime but stormed back behind improved ball movement and interior scoring. Tech twice cut the deficit to two and eventually tied the game 72–72 on Graham Orndoff's free throws with just over a minute remaining. A potential go-ahead three rimmed out moments later, and Campbellsville closed the game at the free-throw line.
Max Morgan led Tech with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a perfect 1-for-1 from deep. Jackson Tackett added 12 points, while Brandon Moore narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Cole Chapman turned in one of the day's most complete performances, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Orndoff added 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 at the line, and Ian Goings contributed 9 points and seven boards. Roman Kellum provided a lift off the bench with seven points and five rebounds.
Tech shot 45.9 percent from the field, hit eight three-pointers, and posted 18 assists on 28 made baskets. The Golden Bears also won the second half 42–37 and recorded 31 bench points, their second-highest total of the season.
