Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tech falls at No. 17 Georgetown despite strong shooting

Men's Basketball

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — WVU Tech men's basketball turned in one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season, but No. 17 Georgetown College used a dominant night in the paint to pull away for a 97–82 victory Friday at the Jim Reid Classic.

The Golden Bears (1–4) shot 48.3 percent from the floor, 47.8 percent from three and 88.2 percent at the line, marking their best three-point outing and second-best free-throw performance of the season. Tech's outside shooting exceeded what the Tigers had allowed all year — opponents had entered the night shooting just 28.5 percent from deep against Georgetown.

Georgetown countered with physical interior play, finishing with a 56–24 advantage in points in the paint and converting 24 points off 17 Tech turnovers. The Tigers shot 55.6 percent from the field and used early-half runs in both periods to maintain separation.

Leading the way for WVU Tech, Brandon Moore (Lima, Ohio) matched a season high with 25 points, going 8-for-12 from the field, 2-for-4 from three and 7-for-8 at the line. The junior guard also dished a team-high seven assists and added four rebounds.

Jackson Tackett (Logan, W.Va.) delivered a standout night of his own with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep, and pulled down a game-best eight rebounds.

Liam Craven (Brantford, Ontario, Canada) continued his upward trend on the perimeter with 16 points, draining four threes and grabbing five boards. Cole Chapman (Beaver, W.Va.) added nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in another efficient two-way effort.

Roman Kellum (Dunbar, W.Va.) provided energy off the bench with five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.

Tech's 48-point second half was among its best of the year, fueled by 53.6 percent shooting, 5-of-10 from three and a perfect 13-for-13 performance at the foul line.
