Golden Bears pull away late, top Alice Lloyd 74-60

Women's Basketball

BECKLEY, W.Va. - WVU Tech women's basketball erased an 11-point halftime deficit Thursday evening, outscoring Alice Lloyd 46-21 after the break for a 74-60 win inside the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears improved to 11-4 overall, while the Eagles moved to 7-10.

After the teams were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, Alice Lloyd used a 26-point second to take a 39-28 lead into halftime. Tech responded with its best stretch on both ends in the second half, holding the visitors to 7-of-26 shooting after the break and just 2-of-13 in the fourth quarter.

WVU Tech took its first lead early in the fourth and pulled away with a 25-10 final period, turning defense and rebounds into key stops and timely scoring down the stretch.

Golden Bear Highlights

Alexis Sexton and Cadence Stewart led WVU Tech with 15 points apiece. Sexton added seven rebounds and two assists, while Stewart hit three three-pointers.

Kyra Brown provided a lift off the bench with 14 points, knocking down four triples to fuel the second-half push.

Alaira Evans finished with 10 points and six rebounds, going 8-for-9 at the free-throw line.

Emmanuella Amaefula added five points and a game-high six assists, while Avery Lucas grabbed eight rebounds and came away with four steals.

For Alice Lloyd, Bailey Stewart scored 19 points and Shelby Stewart added 13.
