Tech earns two titles at Builder Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — WVU Tech wrestling crowned two individual champions Saturday and finished sixth out of 15 teams with 59.5 points at the Builder Invite, hosted by the Apprentice School.

Freshmen Luke Carpenter and Adams S. Turpin-Abdulrazaaq Jr. led the Golden Bears with first-place finishes at 141 pounds and heavyweight. Carpenter went a perfect 3–0 on the day, recording a fall and two technical falls to claim the 141-pound title. Turpin-Abdulrazaaq was dominant at 285, earning three falls to secure the heavyweight championship.

Jeremiah Chinyere-Okiyi II placed fourth at 133 pounds with three wins, while Alexander Tempus added a fifth-place finish at 184. Maxwell Underwood also earned a fourth-place result at heavyweight, contributing valuable team points in a deep field.

WVU Tech recorded multiple individual wins throughout the lineup, continuing to build momentum against a strong mix of NCAA Division III and regional opponents.

165 — Curtis Smith: 2–2 overall. Earned a major decision and a technical fall in two victories.

174 — Shannon Fray: 1–2 overall. Posted one major-decision win.

184 — Alexander Tempus (5th place): 1–2 overall.

197 — William Stricklin: 0–2 overall.

197 — Nicholas Vincent: 1–2 overall. Recorded one fall.

285 — Adams S. Turpin-Abdulrazaaq Jr. (1st place): 3–0 overall. Won the heavyweight title with three falls.

285 — Maxwell Underwood (4th place): 2–2 overall.
