Golden Bears compete in tough RSC road matchup

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – WVU Tech women's basketball opened Tuesday's River States Conference road matchup with strong energy and traded punches early with No. 8 Rio Grande before the RedStorm pulled away in a 90-52 decision at Newt Oliver Arena.

The Golden Bears set the tone right away, scoring 20 points in the first quarter and taking a 12-8 lead at the 7:11 mark after a fast start in the paint. WVU Tech stayed within two after one (22-20), with Alexis Sexton scoring six early points and the Golden Bears getting quality looks at the rim to keep pace.

Rio Grande created separation over the middle quarters with an 18-7 second period and a 27-11 third, using efficient shooting and transition pressure to extend the margin. WVU Tech continued to compete and generate extra chances, finishing with 15 second-chance points, 20 bench points, and 28 points in the paint, while battling on the glass with 41 rebounds.

Golden Bear Highlights

Alexis Sexton led WVU Tech with 14 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the field.

Cadence Stewart added 10 points and five rebounds, continuing her consistent offensive presence.

Maggie Boroski provided a lift off the bench with seven points and four rebounds.

WVU Tech finished with 15 second-chance points and 20 bench points, continuing to show depth and effort across the lineup.

WVU Tech moves to 15-8 overall and 6-7 in River States Conference play, sitting fifth in the RSC East Division. Rio Grande remains atop the East at 11-0 in conference play and 22-1 overall.
