WVU Tech Sets 16th Indoor Record

Women's and Men's Indoor Track & Field

MARIETTA, Ohio — WVU Tech closed out competition Saturday at the River States Conference Indoor Championship inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center with a podium finish on the track and a school record performance in the women's 4x400-meter relay to cap championship weekend.

The Golden Bears continued to build momentum on championship Saturday, adding points in the jumps, relays and sprints while celebrating several record-breaking performances across the two-day meet.

After two days of competition, WVU Tech showed continued growth across both squads while capping one of the most productive indoor seasons in program history.

Men's Highlights

Freshman Isaac Agee delivered WVU Tech's top finish of the day, earning a runner-up podium finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.67. The second-place effort capped a championship weekend in which Agee also reset multiple program standards in the sprint and hurdle events.

WVU Tech also picked up two team points in the 4x400-meter relay as Tommy Wikel, Isaac Agee, Carlos Enrique Parra Soto and Ralph Aaron Etaba Ateba combined to place seventh in 3:39.55. Ateba closed the relay in 52.37 on the anchor leg, helping Tech hold position in the final lap of the championship race.

Freshman Crutcher Hutchison delivered a scoring performance in the triple jump, finishing eighth with a top mark of 11.95 meters (39-2.50). After fouling on his first two attempts, Hutchison settled in with a clean third jump and later improved his mark in the finals to secure a team point.

In the open 400 meters, Ralph Aaron Etaba Ateba posted a 53.24 effort to lead the Golden Bears, while Chucky Jordan followed with a 56.10 showing as both continued to build consistency in the one-lap event.

Evan McElwayne battled through a competitive 1,000-meter field, crossing in 2:53.90 to close out his indoor distance campaign.

In the shot put, Brady Smith led the Tech throwers with a mark of 10.58 meters (34-8.50), followed by Colton Henderson at 10.41 meters (34-1.75). Jonathan Cantley recorded a 9.99-meter (32-9.25) effort, and Matthew Rhodes added a 9.68-meter (31-9.00) throw.

Additional Golden Bears contributing across championship events included Christian Saffouri, Samuel Whitcomb, Travis Anderson and Jan Fasius Ponsa in relay and distance competition, along with sprinters Owen Cameron, Iain Furman, Alec Howard and Nikolas Rodriguez. Cade Curfman, Caden Luyett, Eli Jordan, Ethan Cavender, Albert Berenguer, Corbyn Cunningham, David Maxson and Nicholas Vincent were also part of Tech's championship roster and depth throughout the meet.

Women's Highlights

The WVU Tech women closed the meet with a school record performance in the 4x400-meter relay, as Hailey Ervin, Nevaeh Wooding, Rebecca H. Lorincz and Peyton Asbury combined to run 4:33.89. Wooding and Lorincz helped position the relay in the middle stages before Asbury delivered a strong anchor leg to cap the record-setting run and seal the new program mark.

Earlier in the championship, Rebecca H. Lorincz set a new school record in the 600 meters, scoring team points with a seventh-place finish. She also contributed in sprint events throughout the meet.

Hailey Ervin added to her record-setting season with school records in the long jump and 55-meter hurdles, continuing to show versatility across events.

In the 1,000 meters, Lexie Wikel crossed in 3:36.77, while Peyton Asbury posted a 4:11.06 effort in the distance event.

Abigail Holley represented the Golden Bears in the shot put, recording a top throw of 6.64 meters (21-9.50).

Also competing for WVU Tech on day two were Jadyn Farmer and Sophie Quinlan, contributing in sprint and relay events as the Golden Bears wrapped up championship action.

A Record-Breaking Indoor Season

With performances from the RSC Indoor Championship included, WVU Tech has now set 16 new school records during the 2025-2026 indoor season, highlighted by multiple record-breaking efforts in Marietta across both days of competition.

The River States Conference Indoor Championship marked another major step forward for the Golden Bear track and field program as it continues building depth, speed and competitive confidence across both squads while adding to a record-setting winter for WVU Tech.
