MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — WVU Tech wrestling wrapped up the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships Saturday at St. Thomas University after pushing four Golden Bears through to day two of the conference tournament.
On Friday, Tech earned postseason wins throughout the lineup and carried momentum into Saturday with Luke Carpenter, Corbyn Cunningham, Jeremiah Chinyere-Okiyi II, and Alexander Tempus all advancing to day two. Carpenter opened the meet with an 11–3 major decision over Louis Mehaffey (Montreat) and later added a 19–5 major decision win over Caleb Benton (Truett McConnell). Cunningham posted one of Tech's biggest point scorers of the meet with a 15–0 technical fall against Caden Thorne (Pikeville), while Tempus earned a 14–10 decision over Jonathon Paramore (Reinhardt) to stay alive. WVU Tech finished day one with six team points.
Saturday, the four remaining Golden Bears each wrestled one bout to close their championship runs. WVU Tech completed the two-day meet with six team points.
Day Two Results
141 — Luke Carpenter: Dropped a tight 4–3 decision to Anthony Santos (Keiser). Carpenter finished the tournament 2–2 overall.
149 — Corbyn Cunningham: Fell to Arthur Reed (Brewton-Parker) by fall at 2:54. Cunningham closed the meet 1–2 overall, highlighted by his day one technical fall win.
133 — Jeremiah Chinyere-Okiyi II: Suffered a medical forfeit loss against Derrique Mytial (Keiser). Chinyere-Okiyi finished 0–2 overall.
184 — Alexander Tempus: Fell to Diogo Ramos-Padilha (St. Thomas) by fall at 0:41. Tempus ended the championship meet 1–2 overall after his day one decision win.
