WVU Tech heads to Kokomo for RSC first round

BECKLEY, W.Va. – No. 4E WVU Tech men's basketball opens postseason play Wednesday night, traveling to Kokomo, Indiana for a River States Conference Championship First Round matchup at No. 1W IU Kokomo. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. EST.

The Golden Bears enter the tournament 11-15 overall and are averaging 76.7 points per game. WVU Tech ranks second in the RSC in three-pointers made per game at 8.8 and leads the conference in assists at 16.1 per contest, highlighting one of the league's most efficient ball-movement offenses.

IU Kokomo brings a 22-6 overall record into the postseason. The Cougars lead the RSC in scoring at 83.8 points per game and rank first in field goal percentage at 49.1 percent.

By the Numbers – WVU Tech

Tech is shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range this season, both marks ranking among the top five in the conference. The Golden Bears are also holding opponents to just 32.2 percent from beyond the arc, the second-best three-point defense in the RSC.

The Golden Bears average 34.7 rebounds per game and have dished out 418 assists this season. Their 16.1 assists per contest rank first in the conference and reflect Tech's balanced scoring attack.

Individually, Brandon Moore leads WVU Tech in scoring at 16.4 points per game while adding 6.0 rebounds per contest.

Cole Chapman quarterbacks the offense and ranks among the league's top playmakers with 110 assists this season, averaging 4.2 assists per game.

Ian Goings contributes 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while Trayten Woods averages 12.9 points and shoots better than 37 percent from three-point range.

Inside, Jackson Tackett has been a steady two way presence, averaging 11.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while adding 57 assists, as the Golden Bears continue to lean on balanced production and strong team rebounding.

By the Numbers – IU Kokomo

IU Kokomo is led by Alonzo Clawson-Smith, who averages 18.8 points and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 58 percent from the field. Joseph Annan Jr. adds 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.

The Cougars shoot 74.4 percent from the free throw line and average 37.3 rebounds per game. Defensively, they hold opponents to 43.8 percent shooting from the field.

Tournament Path

With a win, WVU Tech would advance to the RSC Semifinals on Feb. 28 to face the winner of No. 2E Rio Grande and No. 3W St. Mary-of-the-Woods. The championship game is scheduled for March 3 at the highest remaining seed.
