Golden Bears close strong in 64-56 win vs Kentucky Christian

BECKLEY, W.Va. – WVU Tech women's basketball used a dominant second half to pull away from Kentucky Christian University, 64-56, Tuesday evening in River States Conference play at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.

The Golden Bears improved to 14-7 overall and 5-6 in the RSC, while Kentucky Christian moved to 6-16 overall and 2-9 in conference action.

After trailing 37-27 at the break, WVU Tech flipped the game with a 22-8 third quarter and held Kentucky Christian to just 19 points in the second half.

WVU Tech finished with a 49-37 rebounding edge and turned 18 Kentucky Christian turnovers into 17 points, helping the Golden Bears control the final 20 minutes.

Golden Bear Highlights

Alaira Evans led the way with a game-high 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

Alexis Sexton added nine points and a team-high six assists.

Cadence Stewart finished with nine points, five assists and two steals.

Avery Lucas chipped in six points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Emily Wratchford, Kyra Brown and Emmanuella Amaefula scored five points apiece as WVU Tech outscored Kentucky Christian 18-8 in bench points.

For Kentucky Christian, Bell Sparks scored 16 points, while Kelsee Simpson and Mikyra Caudill added 12 and 11, respectively.

Conference Outlook

WVU Tech sits fifth in the RSC East Division at 5-6, one game back of IU East (6-5) for the fourth and final conference tournament spot in the division. Kentucky Christian remains sixth in the East at 2-9.
