BECKLEY, W.Va. - WVU Tech men's basketball earned an 82-73 River States Conference win over IU Columbus on Saturday afternoon at Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark.
The Golden Bears improved to 9-13 overall and 6-6 in RSC play, while IU Columbus moved to 2-22 overall and 0-12 in conference action.
WVU Tech set the tone early with a 47-33 halftime lead, then withstood a second-half push to finish the day shooting 53.4 percent from the field and knocking down 12 3-pointers. The Golden Bears matched IU Columbus with 34 points in the paint and added 13 second-chance points.
Golden Bear Highlights
Jakyren Woods led the way with 19 points, going 7-of-8 from the floor and a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Brandon Moore filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists, hitting 7-of-9 from the field.
Trayten Woods added 15 points and connected on five 3-pointers, while Ian Goings chipped in 10 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
Cole Chapman paced Tech's ball movement with five assists, and Jackson Tackett pulled down a team-high six rebounds as WVU Tech finished with a 32-30 edge on the glass.
For IU Columbus, Trevin Lieck scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Damontae Thompson finished with 15 points, and LaRenzo Hopkins added 14.
Conference Outlook
With the win, WVU Tech improved to 6-6 in RSC play and remains in fourth place in the East Division, staying in position for the conference tournament picture.
