WVU Tech wraps play at Edgell Battle at Brunswick

CALABASH, N.C. — WVU Tech men's golf completed three days of competition at the Larry and Wally Edgell Battle at Brunswick, finishing 13th in the 16-team field at Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 943 (331-306-306) across the three rounds. WVU Tech improved after the opening day, trimming 25 strokes off its first-round total with back-to-back rounds of 306 to close the event.

Sophomore Roberto Peiró Llobell led the Golden Bears and finished tied for 22nd individually with a three-round total of 226 (+10). Peiró opened the tournament with an 80 before firing a 72 in the second round and closing with a 74.

Alvaro Iglesias Pascual finished tied for 56th with a 238 (+22), highlighted by a final-round 73. Sean Cooper placed tied for 62nd at 239 (+23) after rounds of 82, 75 and 82.

Mathias Maldonado and Parker Vannoy each finished tied for 78th with identical totals of 249 (+33). Maldonado posted rounds of 81, 88 and 80, while Vannoy carded scores of 88, 82 and 79.

Competing as an individual, Gavin Gregory placed tied for 83rd with a total of 250 (+34), shooting 84 in each of the first two rounds before closing with an 82.

Statistically, WVU Tech excelled on shorter holes during the tournament, leading the field in both par-3 scoring (3.09) and par-4 scoring (4.26). The Golden Bears also recorded a tournament-best nine eagles.

Charleston (W.Va.) captured the team title with a score of 890 (+26), while Longwood individual Josh Cummins claimed medalist honors with a three-round total of 214 (-2).

WVU Tech returns to action March 23–24 at the UNOH Spring Kick-Off in Lima, Ohio.
