KOKOMO, Ind. — WVU Tech golf turned in one of its strongest performances of the spring this weekend, finishing fourth at the IU Kokomo Spring Shootout at Wildcat Creek Golf Course.
The Golden Bears posted a team score of 621 (311-310) across the 36-hole event on the par-71, 6,806-yard course, placing fourth in the field to close out the regular season.
Alejandro Gutierrez led the way for WVU Tech, finishing sixth overall at 152 (+10) with rounds of 77 and 75. He delivered a steady two-day performance and secured the Golden Bears' top individual finish of the tournament.
Alvaro Iglesias Pascual added another strong showing, finishing 11th at 156 (+14) after rounds of 77 and 79. Parker Vannoy turned in one of the best improvements of the weekend, placing ninth at 155 (+13) with rounds of 79 and 76.
Roberto Peiró Llobell and Sean Cooper each finished tied for 17th at 158 (+16). Peiró carded rounds of 78 and 80, while Cooper bounced back with a final-round 76 after opening with an 82. Lee Kimathi rounded out the top group for WVU Tech, finishing 23rd at 161 (+19) with rounds of 79 and 82.
Eric Heinold added a consistent performance, finishing tied for 15th at 157 (+15) with rounds of 78 and 79. Pablo Antolín placed tied for 26th at 164 (+22) after rounds of 83 and 81, while Gavin Gregory finished tied for 30th at 165 (+23) with rounds of 84 and 81. Mathias Maldonado placed tied for 32nd at 167 (+25) with rounds of 81 and 86.
Valentin Jimenez Nuñez also finished tied for 32nd at 167 (+25) with rounds of 82 and 85. Trevor Boothe placed 38th at 170 (+28) after rounds of 87 and 83, and Martin Furmento finished 39th at 175 (+33) with rounds of 85 and 90. Max Juutinen placed 41st at 188 (+46) with rounds of 91 and 97, while Ian Crouse finished 43rd at 191 (+49) after rounds of 95 and 96.
Competing as individuals, Gage Garvin finished tied for 35th at 168 (+26) with rounds of 82 and 86. Juan Setuain Irujo placed 40th at 177 (+35) with rounds of 91 and 86, and Hunter Moore finished 42nd at 189 (+47) after rounds of 90 and 99.
As a program, WVU Tech showed strong depth throughout the event, placing multiple golfers inside the top 20 and continuing to build momentum heading into postseason play.
The Golden Bears now turn their focus to the River States Conference Championship, set for April 26-28 at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.
