BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech volleyball turned in its best offensive set of the night in the second Tuesday, recording 13 kills and hitting .189 before Carolina University earned a 3-0 decision at Van Meter Gym.
The Golden Bears (0-7) fell 25-14, 25-21, 25-13 in their first official home match of the season. The opening set featured three ties and three lead changes before Carolina created separation, while Tech answered with its most productive set of the night in the second.
WVU Tech put down 13 kills on 37 swings in the second and hit .189, finishing just four points behind the Bruins. The Golden Bears totaled 27 kills for the match and hit .099.
Freshman Maura O'Niell led the Golden Bear attack with 10 kills and a team-high 11 points. Aniston Treadway added six kills and a solo block, while Ashlinn Sullivan put down four kills on 10 attempts to hit .300. Lucia Orcajo added two kills in two sets.
Ivana Burgos anchored the defense with a match-high 15 digs and added three assists. Anaís González led the Golden Bears with nine assists and added five digs, while Addison White finished with eight assists and four digs. Ashlynn Whitt chipped in six digs and four assists.
Freshman Riana Berkley delivered Tech's lone service ace and added three digs, while Hailey Ervin converted her only attack attempt for a kill and collected two digs.
The Golden Bears finished with 27 kills, 25 assists and 47 digs, all season highs for Tech in a three-set match. WVU Tech also recorded two solo blocks. The previous three-set highs were 23 kills, 22 assists and 46 digs against Ohio Christian.

WVU Tech heads to Rio Grande, Ohio, for four matches at the Emileigh Cooper Memorial Classic. The Golden Bears open Friday, Sept. 4, against Defiance College at 5 p.m. before facing the University of Michigan-Dearborn at 7:30 p.m.
Tech returns Saturday, Sept. 5, to take on the University of Northwestern Ohio at 12:30 p.m. and Madonna University at 3 p.m.
