John Dunn

John Dunn came to WVU Tech in 2009, playing in nearly 70 games for the Golden Bears. Dunn was named an United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) first team All-American and captain his senior year on the way to the USCAA National Championship Final.

Dunn won a host of other accolades during his time at Tech including twice being named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) defensive player of the week, USCAA National All-Tournament Team, WVU Tech Athlete of the Week (2x) and recognized academically upon graduation in May 2012 as recipient of the NASPE Major of the year for outstanding Academic performance.

He joined the coaching staff upon graduation and was the assistant coach for the back-to-back USCAA national championship wins in 2013 and 2014. During Dunn’s first full season as Head Coach, Tech defeated both USCAA National championship finalists during the regular season, while not competing in that tournament, reached new ground as he lead the men’s soccer team to the NAIA national championships for the first time in school history, falling narrowly in the first round to Campbellsville University. In his second season, WVU Tech concluded a historical 2016 campaign with an 18-3-2, 7-0-1 (RSC) record while capturing the runner-up title in the conference tournament after a 2-1 loss to Rio Grande. For the first time in program history, Tech advanced to the elite eight of the NAIA National Championship after defeating Olivet Nazarene University (2-1) and MidAmerica Nazarene University (2-1). The Gold and Blue fell to the eventual champion, Hastings College, 2-1 (OT) to finish out their campaign. Dunn’s career head coaching record stands at 34-6-2, with an assistant coaching record of 36-2-2.

John currently resides in Beckley, West Virginia with his wife, Alexandra, and is a USSF licensed coach and has a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. Dunn also holds a master's degree in athletic administration from Western Kentucky University.
