WVU Tech Athletics has announced its Golden Bear Athletes of the Week for Sept. 14-20, recognizing freshman Irene Saldaña of soccer and senior Pelayo Castillo of golf for standout performances during the week.

Pelayo Castillo (Oviedo, Asturias, Spain) | Golf

Castillo led WVU Tech at the Orange and Black Collegiate, finishing tied for 17th in the Golden Bears' season-opening tournament at Stonecrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

The senior finished the 54-hole event at 2-over 218 with rounds of 76, 69 and 73. Castillo's 3-under 69 in the second round was the lowest round by a Golden Bear during the tournament as he helped Tech finish 11th in the 13-team field.

Castillo is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering.
