Sophomore Chance Smith has been named the Golden Bear Star Performer for December 12 through 18.
 
Smith dominated the 157 lb. class at the Turkey Bowl Tournament hosted by Southern Virginia University this past weekend. 
 
En route to his tournament championship, Smith completed a bracket sweep executing three first period pins versus his opponents.  In the first round, Smith pinned Bridgewater State’s Shane Trost with 1:54 remaining.  He carried his momentum in his second match pinning Ferrum’s Cody Cooper with :05 remaining.  The Golden Bear continued his charge in the final and pinned Bridgewater’s Daniel Sivinski with 1:40 remaining. 
 
Smith qualified for the NAIA National Tournament with his championship performance.
 
Smith is a mathematics major from Mayodan, North Carolina.
