Tech Cruises to Victory at Joe Manchin Classic

Box Score SALEM, West Virginia - Four players scored in double figures including senior Leon Cooper, Jr., who netted 17 points to lead the WVU Tech men's basketball team to a 96-56 win against West Virginia University at Parkersburg Friday afternoon in the Joe Manchin Classic.

The victory, Tech's third consecutive win, improves the Golden Bears record to 10-3 on the season. The Joe Manchin Classic is being hosted by Salem International University in Salem, West Virginia, December 12-13.

The Golden Bears out-rebounded Parkersburg by a commanding 21 boards (48-27). The Gold and Blue also held advantages in points off turnovers (14-10), points in the paint (46-26), second chance points (18-13), fast break points (14-0), bench points (49-28), steals (10-6) and turnovers forced (12-10).

As a team, Tech shot 49.3 percent (34-for-69) from the field overall and 84.0 percent (21-for-25) from the foul line.

Cooper scored his 17 points off of a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line and a 5-for-9 shooting night from the field. In addition to his game-high points, Cooper also recorded five assists and two steals.

Senior Jauries Thomas continued his string of strong offensive performances with 14 points to go with a game-high 15 rebounds for a double-double. Freshman Nick Light tallied 15 points with three rebounds while junior Eddie Gordon had 13 points. Gordon was 6-for-6 from the field and Light 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Ra'Shaud Kincaid led the game with steals (3) and assists (6) while chipping in three points and grabbing five Golden Bear rebounds.

Jai Wright led Parkersburg with 15 points.

The Golden Bears will look to extend their winning streak to four games when they play Bluefield State College 3:00 p.m. Saturday in their final game of the Joe Manchin Classic in Salem, West Virginia.
