MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech athletics and Athletic Director Kenny Howell are excited to announced the addition of men's and women's track and field to Tech beginning 2015-16. Tech also becomes a member of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) in the same year.

The track and field program will be phased-in over time, with the inaugural season focusing on sprints and distance running. In the coming years, WVU Tech will recruit future Golden Bears for field and other events.

Tech's head cross country coach, Bruce Cox, will also serve as the men's and women's track and field coach with the hopes to expand the program and continually add to the coaching staff.

"With my wife Faith being an alum, we are very excited to be playing a role in the revitalization taking place at Tech.  We have been provided the opportunity to put together a very competitive program, while helping to grow the student population, with a large group of quality student-athletes," stated Cox. "We got off to a great start this year with cross country and can't wait to continue the journey next year with the introduction of track and field! We have already been heavy into the recruiting process and the response as been phenomenal!"

WVU Tech will join five other track and field programs in the KIAC, including Alice Lloyd College
, Brescia University, Indiana University East, Point Park University and the University of Rio Grande.
