Golden Bears Drop Doubleheader at Union

BARBOURVILLE, Kentucky — The WVU Tech softball team lost a pair of games to Union College Wednesday afternoon 14-3 and 13-5. The Golden Bears are now 6-8 while the Bulldogs hold a record of 18-13.

Sophomore MaKayla Waugh finished 3-for-5 at the plate, marking two RBI in the series while sophomore Kayla Harbin and senior Megan Blythe both posted a home run in game one.

Waugh tallied two of the Golden Bears' six hits with freshman Skylar Connelly, sophomore MiKayla Craze, senior Stephanie Seewer and Harbin marking a hit each. Seewer recorded a double while Craze and senior Breigh Renner had a stolen base each.

In the circle, freshman Hannah Burke pitched 1.0 inning for the loss, scattering five hits and five earned runs. Fellow classmate Kaitlyn Sisler struck out two batters while giving up just three hits and one earned run in 2.0 innings of work.

Blythe and sophomore Baylee Harless had a multi-hit game, each going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Harless notched a double and scored a run while Blythe picked up two RBI and a run scored.

Junior Mackenzie Wilson drew the start pitching in game two, putting in 3.0 innings of work. Wilson struck out two opponents while giving up nine hits and five earned runs for the loss. Senior Genna Trippett finished the game (1.2 innings) with four hits and three earned runs.

The team will look to snap its losing streak when it travels to Asbury for a doubleheader and Tech's first set of KIAC games on Friday, March 18. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
