Softball finishes 3-1 during RSC play in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- WVU Tech softball finished 3-1 in River States Conference (RSC) play after a four-game road trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Friday and Saturday where they faced Carlow University then Point Park University.

The Golden Bears (14-31, 10-7) defeated the Celtics (12-12-1, 3-9 RSC) 1-0 and 2-1 Friday before splitting with the Pioneers (18-17, 9-5 RSC) 0-5 and 3-0 Saturday.

The W against the Pioneers was huge as the Gold and Blue are now tied at No. 2 with Point Park in the RSC standings at five games back from the University of Rio Grande.

Game Three | Point Park 5, WVU Tech 0 | Box Score

The team tallied four hits including one each from sophomore Skylar Connelly, senior Genna Trippett and two from freshman Madeline Olson.

In the circle, senior Mackenzie Wilson pitched for 4.2 innings in the loss, scattering seven hits and four earned runs while striking out one Pioneer.

Freshman Sydney Smith threw for 1.1 innings, striking out one batter while giving up two hits and one earned run.

Game Four | WVU Tech 3, Point Park 0 | Box Score

Freshman Karina Atanacio pitched a complete game for the shutout victory, retiring four batters via strikes while giving up five hits and walking two Pioneers.

Junior Hannah Calhoun and freshman Annika Ponton marked a hit and a RBI each while junior Kayla Harbin, freshman Ashley Daniels and Atanacio scored a run each.

On the bases, junior MaKayla Waugh and Harbin had a steal a piece.

The team will take a break from conference play when they travel to Hammond, Indiana to face Purdue Northwest April 28 for two games.
