Golden Bears earn victories at Columbia College

Women's and Men's Swimming

COLUMBIA, South Carolina -- WVU Tech women's and men's swimming both earned W's in the pool at Columbia College Saturday (January 14). The women's squad won with a score of 72-60 while the men defeated the Koalas 132-38.

Tech started strong with a first place showing in event one as Pablo Rubio Asin, Andrea Segovia Fernandez, Samantha Adele Pepevnik and Guillermo Usechi touched with a time of 1:55.11 in the Mixed 200 Medley Relay.

Margaret Robinson kept up the momentum, touching first in the 200 Free with a time of 2:19.31. Usechi also finished on top of the podium in the men's 200 Free at 1:57.69.

In event four, Pepevnik was first with a time of 4:54.25 in the 400 IM. For the men, Aron Kristinarson had the best time in the 400 IM at 4:45.93.

Event six of the day was led by Segovia who recorded a 1:19.19 in the 100 Breast. 

Derek Hahn posted a time of 2:12.13 in the 200 Fly, good for first place while Usechi was also on top in the 50 Free with a time of 22.75.

The 12th event saw Robinson recording a 1:01.62 in the 100 Free for first place. The 200 Breast was won by Daniela Bohr after she touched at 2:55.44 and Sebastian Galvez at 2:36.53.

As the meet progressed to event 17, Refiloe "Raf" Mashao garnered a first place showing in the 1650 Free with a time of 18:24.00.

The 100 Fly was won by Hahn with a time of 56.40 while Pepevnik was also first in the next event, posting a time of 1:03.97 in the 100 Back.

The final event for the Gold and Blue to find a first place showing was 21, the 100 Back, as Kristinarson touched at 58.44.

The Golden Bears will finish out the regular season when they travel to NCAA DII Fairmont University Saturday, January 28.
