WVU Tech opens conference season with 3-1 victory

Men's Soccer

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech men's soccer opened its River States Conference (RSC) season with a 3-1 victory over Midway University Thursday at Paul Cline Stadium. The Golden Bears move to 2-4-1, 1-0 (RSC) while the Eagles hold a record of 1-6, 0-1 (RSC).

The Gold and Blue recorded a total of 15 shots on goal compared to Midway's three. Tech also held the edge on corner kicks, 7-2.

Sophomore Luka Felix (Portugal) earned the W after 90 minutes of play and two saves in goal. The Eagles' keeper, Connor Vincent, was forced to stop 11 Golden Bear attempts while allowing three goals.

The first score of the game came from freshman Ollie Corris (Manchester, England) who recorded his first collegiate goal. Corris found the back of the net off an assist from fellow freshman Marc Hernandez (Argentona, Barcelona, Spain) in minute 11.

Sophomore Christian Piewe (Bradford, Canada) posted the next goal, connecting with sophomore Juan Minguez Malonda (Olivia, Valencia, Spain) who had the assist in minute 50.

Tech's third goal was recorded by senior Alejandro Moreno (Barcelona, Spain) in minute 72. The assist for Moreno was tallied by freshman Luciano Barreda (Lima, Peru).

Corris and sophomore Arnau Rabassa (Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Spain) had three shots on goal each while Piewe and Moreno finished with two.

WVU Tech will continue conference play when they host RSC newcomer Indiana University Purdue University Colombus Saturday, September 23 at 7 p.m.
