Golden Bears battle in River States Conference victory

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- WVU Tech volleyball picked up a 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 27-25) River State Conference (RSC) win at Shawnee State University Tuesday evening. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 8-10, 3-2 (RSC) while the Bears move to 7-5, 3-1 (RSC).

Senior Ana Muniz Rocandio (Oviedo, Asturias, Spain) earned another double-double to lead the team with 27 digs and 11 kills. The senior also had three assists, two service aces and a block assist.

Finishing with ten kills each were sophomore Nevaeh Wooding (While Sulphur Springs, W.Va.) and freshman Marianna Oyola Rivera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico). Wooding also produced three total blocks and two digs while Oyola River had seven digs, a block solo and an assist.

Senior Julia McClanahan (Charleston, W.Va.) dished out 37 assists to go with six digs, three kills, a block solo and a service ace.

Sophomore Yukari Furuichi Blanchard (Kearneysville, W.Va.) picked up 14 digs while junior Brooke Presley (Shady Spring, W.Va.) and sophomore Peydon Smith (Beaver, W.Va.) had 12 and 11 digs respectively.

The Golden Bears will return to Van Meter Gym this Friday when they host conference opponent Oakland City University at 7 p.m.
