PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — WVU Tech women's basketball earned a gritty neutral-site win Friday evening, defeating Carolina University, for the second time this season, 64–59 at the Bear Classic hosted by Shawnee State University. With Friday's result, Tech has already matched last season's win total just four games into the 2025–26 campaign.
The Golden Bears (3–1) controlled the pace early, holding Carolina to 4-of-17 shooting in the first quarter to take a 14–9 lead. WVU Tech continued strong offensive execution in the second period, posting 24 points and heading into halftime with a 38–33 advantage after late baskets from Alivia Monroe and Alexis Sexton.
Carolina made a push in the third, trimming the deficit to four entering the final quarter, but WVU Tech responded with poise down the stretch. After the visiting Bruins briefly tied the contest at 53–53, the Golden Bears delivered a decisive 11–6 closing stretch behind a go-ahead three from Cadence Stewart, interior finishes from Mikayla Stacy and Emily Wratchford, and a late jumper from Sexton that pushed the lead to five.
Sexton and Stewart powered WVU Tech with matching double-doubles. Sexton tallied 17 points (7-of-17 FG) and 11 rebounds, while Stewart added 14 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Wratchford was key off the bench with 10 points, three assists, two steals and four rebounds.

WVU Tech finished 25-for-65 from the field (38.5 percent), pulled down 47 rebounds (14 offensive), and received 26 bench points, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to secure the non-conference win.
