BECKLEY, W.Va. – WVU Tech women's basketball returned home for River States Conference play Tuesday night, showing strong early stretches before visiting No. 8 Rio Grande pulled away in a 107–65 result at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears moved to 10–5 overall and 2–4 in conference play, while the nationally ranked RedStorm improved to 17–1 and 6–0 in league action.
WVU Tech hung close through the opening frame and trailed just 28–21 after ten minutes before Rio Grande's size and depth took hold. The Golden Bears continued to battle on both ends, connecting on seven three-pointers and shooting 80 percent from the line, but the RedStorm's 60-percent shooting night and 46–27 rebounding edge created the final separation.
Rio Grande entered the matchup leading the RSC in scoring and field-goal percentage, and continued that trend with five players in double figures. Tech countered with hustle plays, timely outside shooting and a continued push from its starting group.
