RICHMOND, Ind. — WVU Tech men's basketball delivered its most complete performance of the season Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the second half for a 97–77 River States Conference road victory over IU East at Lingle Court.
After trailing 45–42 at halftime, the Golden Bears (4–8, 1–1 RSC) erupted for 55 points in the second half, outscoring IU East by 23 after the break and shooting 60.0 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
WVU Tech finished the afternoon shooting 55.4 percent overall (36-of-65) and knocked down 14 three-pointers, including 12 in the second half. The Golden Bears also turned defense into offense, scoring 18 points off turnovers and holding IU East to just 32 second-half points.
Brandon Moore led the way with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting, adding seven assists, seven rebounds, and three steals in a strong all-around effort. Liam Craven followed with 22 points, hitting six three-pointers, while Ian Goings added 20 points and helped spark Tech's second-half surge at both ends of the floor.
WVU Tech opened the second half with a decisive run, quickly flipping a three-point halftime deficit into a multi-possession lead behind perimeter shooting and transition baskets. The Golden Bears shot 52.2 percent from three (12-of-23) in the second half after going just 2-of-15 from deep in the opening period.
Trayten Woods provided a major lift off the bench, finishing with 13 points while knocking down four three-pointers. WVU Tech's bench accounted for 18 points, helping maintain pressure throughout the half.
IU East was held to 39.3 percent shooting in the second half and went scoreless from three (0-of-7) after the break. WVU Tech controlled the interior as well, scoring 38 points in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 36–30.
The Golden Bears pushed the lead to as many as 22 points late in the second half and closed the game by shooting 78.6 percent from the free-throw line.
