BECKLEY, W.Va. – WVU Tech men's basketball delivered one of its most electric performances of the season Tuesday night, outlasting Midway University (Ky.) 108–104 in overtime at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.
The Golden Bears improved to 11-14 overall and 8-7 in River States Conference play, while Midway fell to 12-13 overall and 9-6 in league action.
Tech built a 42-28 halftime lead and stretched its advantage to as many as 19 points in the second half before Midway stormed back with a 67-point second half, forcing overtime tied at 95.
In the extra period, the Golden Bears outscored the Eagles 13-9, knocking down key free throws and defensive stops down the stretch to seal the four-point victory.
Tech shot 52.3 percent from the field and buried 13 three-pointers, while also winning the rebounding battle 37-32 and dishing out 25 assists on 34 made field goals.
Golden Bear Highlights
Jackson Tackett turned in a dominant performance with 32 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 10-of-13 from the field and 10-of-15 at the free-throw line while adding six assists.
Trayten Woods poured in 29 points, connecting on eight three-pointers and finishing 10-of-15 from the floor.
Brandon Moore added 18 points, five assists and two steals in 34 minutes.
Ian Goings contributed 14 points, four assists and four rebounds, going 7-of-9 at the free-throw line.
Cole Chapman provided steady leadership with seven assists and nine rebounds off the bench.
Tech shot 50.0 percent in the first half and 51.9 percent in the second before hitting 62.5 percent in overtime.
Conference Outlook
With the win, WVU Tech moves to 8-7 in River States Conference play, holding fourth place in the East Division and extending its winning streak to three games. The Golden Bears continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of conference competition.
