The WVU Tech Athletic Department has announced its Golden Bear Athletes of the Week for March 2–8, 2026. This week’s honors go to freshman Maddex Sims (baseball) and junior Keith Karwacki (esports) following standout performances in collegiate competition.
Maddex Sims (Beckley, W.Va.)
Sims powered WVU Tech baseball to a 3-1 week, hitting .471 (8-for-17) across four games while delivering six extra-base hits. The freshman outfielder recorded four doubles and two triples, scored five runs and drove in four while posting a .500 on-base percentage and a .941 slugging percentage. Sims led the Golden Bears with 16 total bases and was a key offensive spark in conference wins over Kentucky Christian and a road victory at Bluefield. He also played flawless defense during the week, finishing with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Keith Karwacki (Ripley, W.Va.)
Karwacki delivered a standout multi-title week for WVU Tech esports in both Fortnite Zero Build and Overwatch. Competing alongside Ryan Hayden in Zero Build duos, the pair totaled 140 points across three matches, highlighted by a third-place finish. Keith accounted for nine of the duo’s 12 eliminations during the session. In Overwatch, he anchored the Golden Bears’ defense in a 3-1 win over Drexel, recording 25 eliminations and 25,474 damage mitigated on Shambali Monastery as WVU Tech improved to 5-0 on the season.
