MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech athletics has a team heading to post season this weekend, golf will participate in the 2014 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships in State College, Pennsylvania starting Sunday morning. The weekend also features doubleheader home volleyball matches Friday evening and men's soccer returns home Saturday to face Virginia Western Community College in Beckley, West Virginia.

FRIDAY - OCTOBER 10
Swimming at West Virginia State Games - 4:00 p.m.The Golden Bears will participate in the fourth annual West Virginia State Games in Huntington, West Virginia this weekend. The meet will start Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium in the Cam Henderson Center. Friday will feature the following events: 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle and 400 Medley Relay.
Last weekend the men's squad took their first win in the 2014-15 season with a score of 154-50 over Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia. The women's team fell 124-64 to the Battlers while qualifying two for Nationals, freshman
Kendra Monnin and sophomore
Francine Meyer.
Volleyball vs. Kentucky Christian University - 5:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.Tech currently holds a record of 5-16, winning three of their last four matches. The three consecutive wins, Oct. 1, 3 and 4 was the most recorded for the Golden Bears since 2011.
The Golden Bears will face a 15-5 team in the Knights of Kentucky Christian. In their last meeting, the Knights bested Tech, 3-1 on Sept. 16, 2013. Sophomore
Brianna Bench and senior
Haley Pauley tallied six kills each against the Knights on that night.
SATURDAY - OCTOBER 11 Swimming at West Virginia State Games - 9:00 a.m.Saturday will showcase two sessions to finish out the meet, 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. In the first session the 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke and 800 Freestyle will be featured. At 3:00 p.m., the following events will be swam: 1650 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and 400 Freestyle Relay.
The men's team qualified three Golden Bears for Nationals last weekend, freshmen
Manuel Serrano Laguna (100 Breast) and
Geoffroy Gauneau (100 Fly) and sophomore
Matheus Montarroyos (200 Free).
Cross Country at Concord Alumni Meet - 9:00 a.m.The Golden Bears will head to Pipestem State Park in Pipestem, West Virginia Saturday morning to participate in the Concord Alumni Meet. Tech will face opponents from host school, Concord University, Glenville State College and the University of Charleston.
Last week, pacing the men was senior
Zack White, who finished 41
st overall at the meet with a time of 28:10. Following White was junior
Dominic Rich, placing 60
th for Tech, clocking a time of 28:59. For the women's squad, freshman
Amanda Neff led the way finishng with a time of 24:37 (105
th).
Men's soccer vs. Virginia Western Community College - 1:00 p.m.The team is coming off their fourth consecutive win, 5-1 over Washington Adventist University Wednesday afternoon in Takoma Park, Maryland. The Golden Bears have a winning record of 9-1-1 in 2014-15.
Freshman
Alex Pastor recorded three hat tricks in Tech's last three showings, earning USCAA Player of the Week and Golden Bear Star Performer accolades this week. Pastor leads the team with ten goals and also has six assists for a total of 26 points in his career. The freshman is currently tied for 14
th overall in the Nation (USCAA) with his scoring efforts.
Volleyball at Ohio Valley University - 3:00 p.m.With less than 24 hours since their doubleheader against Kentucky Christian, the Golden Bears will head to Vienna, West Virginia to face the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley University Saturday afternoon.
Pauley has marked 178 kills this season and has a career 831 kills for the Golden Bears. The Milton, West Virginia native is also making a difference on defense with 266 digs in 2014, second only to junior libero
Chelsea Dean who has tallied 371 in her first season at Tech.
MONDAY-TUESDAY - OCTOBER 13-14 Golf at USCAA National Championships - 9:00 a.m. (Oct. 13 & 14)Tech will head to State College, Pennsylvania this weekend to participate in the 2014 USCAA National Championships hosted by the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) at the Penn State Blue Course.
The Golden Bears will be represented by seniors
Gerardo Flores and
Matt Caton, juniors
Steven Han and
Tommy Weaver and freshman
Nathaniel Earl. Last year, Tech ended the tournament with a 13
th place finish out of 19 teams.
