MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - The Golden Bear Star Performers of the Week for October 22-28 were announced Tuesday afternoon by the WVU Tech Athletic Department. Freshmen swimmers
Kendra Monnin and
Manuel Serrano Laguna headline this week's awards.
Helping the women of WVU Tech swimming to a third place finish at the Falcon Sprint Invite, Monnin swam the breaststroke leg of the first place 200 Medley Relay, splitting a 32.99 The Knoxville, Tennessee native went on to win the 100 IM (1:05.33) and the 100 Breast (1:11.73).
Manuel helped the men's squad sneak past Fairmont State University in a meet that came down to the last relays. The freshman swam the breaststroke leg of the second place 200 Medley Relay, splitting a 27.81. The Toledo, Spain native then went on to come in second in the 100 IM (58.43) and first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:01.48).
Monnin is the daughter of Mark and Lisa Monnin and is majoring in chemical engineering as a Golden Bear while the son of Antonio and Cristina Serrano Laguna is majoring in engineering at Tech.
The Golden Bears return to the pool Nov. 8 when they travel to Mars Hill, North Carolina to face Mars Hill College, start time scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
