BUCKHANNON, West Virginia - The WVU Tech men's swim team defeated the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan University 142-43 while the women fell 115-52.
Starting off the meet was the women's 200 medley relay. The team of
Francine Meyer,
Kendra Monnin,
Shannon Wiercioch and Rubhi Garcia raced to a second place finish in a time of 2:01.96.
The men's A medley relay of
Jack Cavanagh,
Manuel Serrano Laguna, Geoffroy Gaunea and
Quentin Cooper and the B relay of
Kyle Polczynski,
Gabriel Grauwde,
Jaime Arevalo and Alexandre Quintao took first and second. The A relay clocked a time of 1:39.98 and the B followed closely with a 1:42.17.
Winning the 200 Freestyle for the women was Monnin, clocking a time of 2:03.36, winning the event by almost seven full seconds.
Sweeping the 200 Freestyle for the men were
Matheus Montarroyos,
Jesus Ballesteros Peral and Alexandre Quintao. Montarroyos finished with a time of 1:50.22 followed by Ballesteros (1:51.30) and Quintao (1:56.05).
The women's 50 freestyle featured
Rebecca McDaniel swimming a 29.71 for a third place finish.
Cooper took top honors in the men's 50 Freestyle with a 22.35 and finishing third was
Lucas Malvar in a time of 23.80.
Meyer won the women's 200 IM, she clocked a 2:21.26 to top her nearest competitor by four seconds.
Winning the 200 IM for the men was
Manuel Serrano Laguna (2:00.80). Finishing third was
Jack Cavanagh in a time of 2:07.45.
Finishing second in the 200 Fly was Wiercioch (2:46.83). Winning the men's 200 Fly was Gauneau (1:58.99) and second was Arevalo (2:01.75).
Grabbing third place in the women's 100 Free was Garcia (1:01.97)., The men's event was won by Ballesteros (49.67) and picking up second was G. Grauwde (51.73).
McDaniel placed third in the 200 backstroke in a 2:47.51 and taking the top two spots in the men's event were
Michael Grauwde (2:09.52) and Polczynski (2:10.57)
The men's 500 also featured a first and second place finish. Montarroyos claimed first with a 4:58.43 followed closely by Cooper who swam a 5:00.75.
Top honors in the women's and men's 200 Breaststroke went to Monnin (2:36.47) and Laguna (2:14.97). Cavanagh placed second in a 2:17.48.
The 200 Freestyle relays finished the meet., The women's team of Garcia, McDaniel, Wiercioch, and Meyer placed second with a 1:51.94 and the men's team of Ballesteros, Quintao, Montarroyos and Polczynski took first with a 1:30.55.
The teams are back in action next weekend against Lindsey Wilson College, January, 17.
