BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's and men's swimming began its 2020-2021 season with back-to-back home meets Friday and Saturday. The men's squad picked up a win over Shawnee State University Saturday, 93-88. The Golden Bears hosted Salem University Friday and had a tri-meet with Lees-McRae College and Shawnee State Saturday.

The weekend highlights include:
- Men's team picked up their first dual W of the season.
- Sophomore Andrea Segovia finished first in the 200 Free (2:22.95) and 100 Breast (1:21.71) against Salem. She also finished second Saturday in the 200 Free (2:22.94) and 100 Breast (1:21.91).
- Freshman Guillermo Usechi was second in the 50 Free vs. Salem (25.74). He finished second Saturday during the 200 IM (2:18.02) and touched second in the 100 Free (56.79).
- Junior Pau Eslava touched first against Salem during the 200 IM (2:17.69) and 100 Back (1:04.23). He also touched second Saturday for the 200 Back (2:16.50) and first in the 100 Fly (1:00.69).
- Sophomore Brenna Emery came in second against Salem during the 100 Back (1:17.27).
- Freshman Refiloe Mashao posted a 4:28.54 in the 400 Free for first place and was also first on Saturday in the same event with a time of 4:27.19.
- Freshman Daniel Millar was second in the 100 Breast (1:11.18) versus Salem and second during the 50 Free (25.32) and 100 Breast (1:11.00) against Shawnee State and Lees-McRae.
- The 200 Free Relay team of Segovia, Emery, freshman Kamryn Grubb and sophomore Madison Udy touched first (2:11.38).
- Mashao, Eslava, Usechi and Millar were second with their 200 Free Relay (1:44.76).
The teams will return to the pool November 7 when they host Centre College at the YMCA of Southern West Virginia. Please note spectators are not allowed during home events due to COVID-19 concerns.
