PORTSMOUTH, Ohio --Â WVU Tech men's swimming opened their 2021-2022 campaign with a dual sweep over host school Shawnee State University (167-67) and University of Pikeville (189-8).
The 200 Medley Relay team of
Guillermo Usechi,
Simon Ulich,
Pau Eslava and
Donat Fabian finished first with a time of 1:52.91.
Charleston Lawson,
Sebastian Galvez,
Richard Sehannie and
Bianti Papinova touched third in the same event at 2:06.50.
Tech took first, second and third in the 800 Free with
Jimmy Granger (8:52.84),
Refiloe Mashao (9:15.38) and
Isaac Vallance (9:28.27).
Usechi was first in 200 Free with a time of 2:02.67 while Lawson finished third at 2:13.86.
During the 100 Back, Eslava recorded the fastest time at 1:04.91 while Fabian was quickest in the 100 Breast at 1:07.57.
Eslava was also first in the 200 Fly (2:18.69) while Ulich touched second in the 100 Breast (1:09.76).
In the 50 Free, Fabian was second with a time of 24.59. Golden Bears Usechi and Mashao ended second and third in th 100 Free with times of 54.40 and 58.81.
Granger was first (2:29.07) and Lawson second (2:33.69) in the 200 Back while Ulich (2:38.10) and Galvez (2:43.52) were second and third in the 200 Breast.
Tech took the top two spots in the 400 Free with Granger finishing at 4:18.83 and Lawson following with a time of 4:54.74.
Usechi (1:03.09), Vallance (1:04.56), Mashao (1:07.17) and Sehannie (1:14.17) captured the top four finishes during the 100 Fly.
Eslava (2:17.83) then Ulich (2:20.86) touched for first and second place in the 200 IM.
The dual was finished out by a first place finish for the Golden Bears in the 200 Free Relay with the team of Fabian, Granger, Vallance and Mashao at 1:43.18.
WVU Tech will next travel to Morgantown, West Virginia for the West Virginia State Games October 8-9.
