BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech men's basketball went toe-to-toe with No. 12 University of Pikeville, rallying late before falling 77–73 Tuesday night inside the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.
The Golden Bears (1-1) erased a 15-point halftime deficit behind a 43–32 second-half surge, briefly taking the lead before the nationally ranked Bears held on at the line. Tech shot 46.2 percent from the field and 32.0 percent from three-point range, using balanced scoring and energy on the boards to make it a four-point finish in Beckley.
Jackson Tackett led WVU Tech with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds, while Brandon Moore filled the stat sheet with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists. Ian Goings added 14 points and five boards, and Cole Chapman directed the offense with seven assists. Off the bench, Roman Kellum contributed nine points and six rebounds, and Graham Orndoff buried a late three that brought Tech within one possession in the final seconds.
The effort marked another strong showing to begin the season as the Golden Bears held Pikeville to just 34 second-half points and continued to showcase depth across the rotation.
