PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – WVU Tech women's basketball opened River States Conference (RSC) play on the road Wednesday night, showing bright stretches against one of the league's top offenses before falling 91–59 at Shawnee State. The Golden Bears moved to 7–2 overall and 0–1 in league play, while the Bears improved to 8–3 and 1–0 in the RSC.
WVU Tech hit nine threes and shot 40.9 percent from deep, generating productive scoring from multiple players. Shawnee State countered with a strong shooting performance at 57.6 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from three, building momentum through stretches of transition scoring. The Golden Bears finished at 40.4 percent from the floor and held their own in stretches on the glass, but the Bears' 32–26 rebounding edge and 17 Tech turnovers created separation.
Shawnee State was led by the trio of Miyoshi Ellis, Jonilyah Chambers and Kyla Torok, who combined for 53 points and paced an offense that posted the highest total any opponent has scored against Tech this season.
Golden Bear Highlights
Cadence Stewart posted 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-7 from three. The junior guard added a team-high 8 rebounds and 2 assists in 28 minutes, continuing her run as Tech's leading scorer.
Alaira Evans provided an efficient lift with 11 points, going 4-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. The freshman forward also grabbed 2 rebounds in 17 minutes.
Emily Wratchford stayed hot from the floor with 7 points on 3-of-4 shooting, including 1-of-2 from deep. The sophomore guard added 3 assists and 2 rebounds off the bench.
Halle Crouse finished with 7 points, 4 rebounds and a 3-of-7 shooting line in 10 minutes, knocking down a free throw and giving Tech energy on the wing.
Maggie Boroski chipped in 6 points and 3 rebounds, going 3-of-5 from the field in 15 minutes of reserve work.
Senior guard Alexis Sexton tallied 5 points, 3 assists and a block, while senior guard Emmanuella Amaefula contributed 2 rebounds and steady backcourt minutes. Freshman forward Mikayla Stacy added 2 points and a rebound, and freshman post Alivia Monroe finished with 2 points and an offensive board. Senior forward Jazzlyn Nixon, junior guard Kyra Brown, sophomore guard Mary Beth Meadows and freshman guard Addyson Amick each provided minutes in the rotation.
As a team, the Golden Bears went 23-of-57 from the field, 9-of-22 from three and 4-of-5 at the line, with 11 assists on 23 made baskets. Tech recorded 9 offensive rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block.
