BECKLEY, W.Va. – WVU Tech men's basketball delivered one of its most efficient offensive performances of conference play but came up short in a 69–60 loss to River States Conference leader (RV) Shawnee State University on Thursday evening at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.
The Golden Bears moved to 6-13 overall and 3-6 in RSC action, while Shawnee State improved to 17-4 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 9-0.
Shawnee State built a 39-27 lead at halftime, but WVU Tech responded with a strong second half, outscoring the Eagles 33-30 over the final 20 minutes. The Golden Bears cut the deficit to single digits multiple times down the stretch and continued to apply pressure late.
WVU Tech finished the night shooting 49.0 percent from the field, a mark higher than Shawnee State's opponent field-goal average entering the game. The Golden Bears also scored 32 points in the paint, exceeding Shawnee State's season average allowed, and held the Eagles to 69 points — more than 11 points below their scoring average this season.
Golden Bear Highlights
Brandon Moore led all scorers with 19 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting night.
Ian Goings added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Trayten Woods chipped in eight points and four rebounds.
Jakyren Woods finished 4-for-4 at the free-throw line with six points, and Roman Kellum provided a spark off the bench with six points in limited minutes.
