HUNTINGTON, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's and men's swimming started the 2018-19 season this weekend at the West Virginia State Games, competing against NCAA competition in Huntington Friday and Saturday. The men's squad finished fourth while the women turned in a seventh place finish.
The men's team was led by a first place finish from sophomore
Marcos de Paula Damaso in the 1650 Free with a time of 16:42.56. Damaso also helped lead the 800 Free relay team of juniors
Felipe Ruiz,
Paulo Ignacio, Jr. and
Manuel Laguna Gomez to a third place touch with a time of 7:18.17.
Ignacio also placed second in the 100 Breast with a time of 57.34 and fourth in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:11.03.
For the women, senior
Mariara Loureiro led the way with 25 points including a sixth place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:38.34.
The 200 Medley Relay team of seniors
Isabela Kiesewetter Zandavalli,
A'ishah Hironimus,
Mariana Loureiro and Mariana, produced a seventh place finish with a time of 2:01.86 towards 24 points for the team.
Up next, the teams will travel to Salem University to face off against the host school, Salem, and Alderson Broaddus University on Friday, October 26.
