KINGSPORT, Tennessee -- WVU Tech repeated as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Swimming and Diving champion, edging out second place Union by 33.5 points. The three-day event was held at the Kingsport Aquatic Center Kingsport Aquatic Center in the HMG Competition Pool.
WVU Tech tallied 682.5 total points, while Union amassed 649. Rounding out the rest of the field are: Asbury (533.5 points), Milligan (404 points), Point (361 points), and St. Andrews (16 points).
To earn All-AAC Team honors, an individual must place in the top three of an event. In relay events, all four members earn All-AAC honors for the event.
Tech had eight Golden Bears earn All-AAC honors including Dan Kelly, Paulo Ignacio, Jr., Geoffroy Gauneau, Jesus Ballesteros, Manuel Laguna Gomez, Marcos de Paula Damaso, Felipe Ruiz and Manuel Serrano Laguna. For a complete list of the All-AAC Team, click here.
A total of five meet records were set this year including three from the Golden Bears. The new milestones are:
- 400 Freestyle Relay - WVU Tech (Ruiz, Gauneau, Ballesteros, Ignacio) - 3:09.68
- 100 Butterfly - Wiktor Perkowski, Union - 50.66
- 200 Butterfly - Keith Jessee, Asbury - 1:54.38
- 100 Breaststroke - Paulo Ignacio Jr., WVU Tech - 56.19
- 1650 Freestyle -Manuel Laguna Gomez, WVU Tech - 16:05.85

The All-Academic and Champions of Character teams were also announced. Vinicius Rios earned the Champions of Character honors for Tech while Gauneau, Ignacio, Gomez, Rios, Ruiz and Laguna all earned All-Academic accolades. To view those honorees, click here.
The complete Golden Bear men's squad will next be competing as individuals during the NAIA National Championship in Columbus, Georgia February 28 - March 3.
