MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- With the conclusion of the regular season, on Sunday, February 23, the 2019-20 River States Conference (RSC) Women's Basketball Championship qualifiers and bracket are released here at RiverStatesConference.com. The championship will take place February 26-March 3 at campus site around the conference with the winner automatically qualifying for the NAIA Division II National Championship.
WVU Tech is the No. 1 overall seed and is already guaranteed a bid to the NAIA national tournament. That's because the Golden Bears (24-6, 16-0 RSC) locked up a national spot as the overall RSC Regular Season Champion in addition to being the RSC East Division champion.
WVU Tech, ranked No. 24 in the NAIA Division II Top 25 Poll and with 18 straight victories, has home-court advantage throughout the conference postseason. The Golden Bears open up in the quarterfinals February 26 versus IU Kokomo (16-12, 8-8 RSC), the No. 4 seed from the RSC West.
The other quarterfinal game on that half of the bracket pits No. 2 seed Midway (Ky.) University (22-8, 9-7 RSC) from the RSC West at home versus Ohio Christian University (18-11, 8-8 RSC), the No. 3 seed from the RSC East. The Midway-Ohio Christian winner will advance to play the WVU Tech-IU Kokomo winner in the semifinals February 29.
IU Southeast is the other No. 1 seed in the bracket as the champion of the RSC West Division. The Grenadiers are 18-11 overall, 9-7 RSC and play host to No. 4 seed IU East (10-20, 8-8 RSC) from the RSC East.
University of Rio Grande (Ohio) is the No. 2 seed from the RSC East and will host No. 3 seed Asbury (Ky.) from the RSC West. Rio Grande is 18-12, 10-6 RSC while Asbury is 20-10, 8-8 RSC with its make-up game win over Carlow on Sunday. The Rio Grande-Asbury winner will move on to face the IU Southeast-IU East winner in the semifinals February 29.
The RSC Championship finals are March 3 at the highest remaining seed. Each game is hosted by the higher seed throughout the playoffs. The RSC has two automatic bids to the NAIA Division II National Championship. Since WVU Tech already has secured one, if the Golden Bears go on to win the conference playoffs, then IU Southeast will earn the RSC's other national bid as the winner of the RSC West Division.
