BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech women's basketball battled Saturday afternoon, dropping an 84–61 decision to Mount Vernon Nazarene inside the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center.
The Golden Bears (2–1) traded baskets early and trailed by just two after one quarter, but the visiting Cougars (2–3) found their rhythm midway through the second and never looked back. Mount Vernon Nazarene shot 49 percent from the field and 90 percent from the line, steadily pulling away in the second half.
Cadence Stewart and Alexis Sexton led WVU Tech with 15 points each. Stewart went 5-of-12 from the floor, hitting 3-of-5 from deep, while Sexton added eight rebounds, two steals and two assists in 34 minutes. Emmanuella Amaefula paced the offense with six assists, five points and one rebound. Avery Lucas finished with two points and two steals.
Mary Beth Meadows provided an efficient spark off the bench with three points in two minutes, while Emily Wratchford and Alaira Evans each contributed six and five points respectively.
Mount Vernon Nazarene was paced by Anna Swisshelm's 28-point outing and Angela Roshak's double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
WVU Tech finished 23-for-67 from the field (34.3 percent) and 5-for-18 from three-point range while pulling down 35 rebounds and handing out 16 assists.
