PHILLIPI, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's and men's swimming swept dual meets at Alderson Broaddus University Tuesday evening, earning scores of 89-69 and 123-22 respectively.
Throughout the evening, the Golden Bears took the top spot in nearly every event including two first place touches each from senior
Kendra Monnin, juniors
Mariana Loureiro and
Mariara Loureiro and freshman
Marcos de Paula Damaso.
Monnin won the 500 Free with a time of 5:33.53 and the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:04.37. Mariana touched first in the 200 Free (2:04.19) and 100 Free (57.46). Mariara captured the top spot in the 200 IM (2:26.28) and the 100 Free (57.46).
Damaso recorded the best times in the 200 Free (1:50.84) and the 500 Free (4:56.57).
Also grabbing first place at Alderson Broaddus for the men were sophomore
Paulo Ignacio, Jr. (200 IM, 2:05.43), juniors
Dan Kelly (50 Free, 23.56),
Takoda Grove (100 Back, 1:01.00) and
George Sheldon (100 Fly, 58.46) and senior
Jesus Ballesteros (100 Free, 52.23).
Junior
Isabela Kiesewetter Zandavalli touched first in the 100 Back with a time of 1:04.87 for the women.
The 200 Medley Relay team of Grove, Ignacio, Ballesteros and junior
Vinicius Rios finished first with a time of 1:41.58. The 200 Free Relay team of Ballesteros, Rios, Kelly and senior
Geoffroy Gauneau also finished on top with a time of 1:33.06.
The women's relay team of Zandavalli, Monnin, Mariana and Mariara finished first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:57.71.
The Golden Bears return to action this Saturday when they travel to Union College to take on the host school and Bethel College.
